Study Overview Closures & Restrictions

State Route (SR) 801 is a proposed east/west freeway in western Maricopa County. It would connect existing SR 85 to the proposed Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway), with a connection to the proposed Loop 303. This is one of several projects associated with the passage of Proposition 400 and is designed to improve traffic flow throughout the Valley. SR 801 is currently being studied in two sections. This study will develop and evaluate possible freeway options. Proposition 400 will fund the acquisition of the right of way and provide funding for a six-lane freeway within this section. The current schedule allocates funding for construction of this segment of SR 801 in Phase IV (2021-2026) of the Regional Transportation Plan.

The second study section covers the area between SR 85 and the proposed Loop 303. This study will develop and evaluate possible freeway options for SR 801.

Study Update
In September 2005, an agency information meeting and two public information meetings were held. In March 2006, ADOT and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) held one agency and two public scoping meetings for this study. Since fall 2006, the study team has refined the three corridors for State Route 801 that were previously presented. Freeway corridors were developed taking into consideration the public and agency meeting comments. The map below displays the alternatives currently under consideration. These alternatives were included in an Corridor Alignment Update and identified on the map below.
